Volunteer

Whether you're swinging a hammer, sorting donations at the ReStore, mentoring future homeowners, or supporting community events—there’s a place for you at Habitat Lake-Sumter. Your time and talents help build homes, community, and hope.

Volunteers are the heart of Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter. Together, we’re building a community where everyone has a place to call home.

Whether you’re scheduling your first volunteer day, signing up for a recurring shift, or inviting friends and co-workers for a fun and rewarding team build, there’s a place for you.

construction

You can help build homes for families in need of safe, affordable housing and assist existing homeowners with critical repairs. We encourage a willingness to learn new skills and tasks. No specific experience is needed and a site supervisor will be available for safety and on-site training.

You’ll help with a variety of tasks, including cutting lumber, framing walls, painting, installing flooring, doors, and ramps, laying sod, and many other activities that go into building or repairing a home.

ReStore

Our thrift stores, located in Leesburg and Eustis, generate essential revenue that supports our operations and is invested back into our mission to create affordable housing in our community. Every dollar generated ensures families gain the access, opportunity, and independence needed to build a brighter future.

When volunteering at our ReStores, you’ll play a vital role by sorting donations, stocking shelves, maintaining the stores, and providing excellent customer service.

admin

Learn new skills or share your expertise by supporting our day-to-day operations. You can help with tasks such as writing articles and family stories, data entry and filing, answering phones, and other special projects throughout the year. Our offices are located in Eustis and The Villages.

community events

Bring your energy and passion to our mission by providing support for community events and helping us increase our presence within Lake and Sumter Counties. Volunteers are needed to help with planning and executing special events, like Women Build, education and outreach events, home dedications and more.

Join us from the very beginning or for a single exciting day, there’s a place for you to make an impact!

photographer / videographer

Volunteer as a photographer or videographer and help us capture the moments behind the mission. You may be asked to capture construction progress, take portraits of partner families, photograph special events, or record short videos for social media and marketing.
Your talent helps tell our story, highlight volunteer efforts, and share the impact of Habitat for Humanity Lake-Sumter.

family mentor

As a mentor, you’ll work closely with the future homebuyer, guiding and supporting them throughout their time in the program and for up to 1 year after closing. As first-time homebuyers, many of the families we serve are often the first in their family lineage to purchase a home, making this guidance especially important.

You’ll build strong, supportive connections while helping the family complete their sweat equity, homebuyer education, and financial literacy requirements. By working in collaboration with the Programs team, you’ll provide hands-on support that is instrumental to ensuring the family’s success both now and in the years ahead.
